Sindh CM admits failure on flood victim protection policies

Islamabad, Tue, 17 Aug 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Aug 17 (ANI): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has admitted that the Pakistan Government has failed to formulate policies and strategies for protecting people facing flood related threats.

Blaming irrigation experts and the departments concerned for not being efficient in providing timely information and guidance, he urged the country to help the flood victims collectively, instead of holding inquiries and awarding punishment for failures.

So far, 18,000 flood victims have been accommodated in relief camps in Karachi, and, arrangements have been made for an additional 100,000 people. In camps set up in Hyderabad, 6,000 victims have been registered so far, The Dawn reported.

The chief minister said that 1.5 - 1.6 million people had been affected by floods in Sindh and added, that 700,000 people were affected only in underdeveloped areas. (ANI)
