Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's death anniversary goes unnoticed

Lahore , Tue, 17 Aug 2010 ANI

Lahore, Aug 17 (ANI): The 13th death anniversary of Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan went largely unnoticed in Lahore as no ceremony was organized in the city to pay tribute to him.

The worst floods of the history of Pakistan and continuous rains in main cities of the country also prevented music lovers to pay tribute to the legend.

The singer started his musical career as a tabla player and soon he started singing Qawwali, which he used to perform at shrines, wedding ceremonies and fairs.

"Japanese call him the Buddha of music while he is still regarded as the voice of paradise by the Americans," The Nation quoted renowned multilingual poet, Khalid Ahmed as saying.

"He had God gifted qualities, which inspired his fans with his extraordinary variety and distinctive voice," he added.

He died at the age of 48 due to cardiac arrest in London in 1997. (ANI)
