London, Aug.6 (ANI): Denying plans to join active politics, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari's son-Bilawal has said that he would not be attending the public rally in Birmingham on Saturday, which is slated to addressed by his father.
It was being reported that the Zardari would be using the rally to launch 21-year-old Bilawal's political career to follow in the footsteps of his late mother, Benazir Bhutto.
Bilawal made it clear that he would not be attending the rally, and would instead helping in raising funds for the flood victims.
"In fact, I will not even be attending the event and instead I will be opening a donation point at the Pakistan High Commission in London for victims of the terrible floods which have ravaged northern Pakistan," The Dawn quoted a statement issued by Bilawal, as saying.
Bilawal, an Oxford graduate, said that he has no intentions to join active politics as of now, adding that he wants to continue his studies.
"I felt it was necessary to issue a statement to counter some inaccurate information that has recently been reported. As for my future plans, I intend to continue my education both academic and political," he said.
Bilawal's statement comes as a major embarrassment for Zardari, who has been receiving tremendous flak for taking a foreign trip when over four million people have been affected by devastating floods in the country's north-western region. (ANI)
