Washington, Aug. 5 (ANI): Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad still coming to New York in September despite what was initially reported as an 'assassination' attempt.
Ahmadinejad was unhurt in a motorcade incident Wednesday and will now head to New York next month.
"We haven't arrived at a judgment as to what happened," New York Daily News quoted State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley as saying of the blast that went off near Ahmadinejad's convoy in the western city of Hamedan, "We're trying to figure it out."
Iran's official news agency claimed that it was just a firecracker set off by an Ahmadinejad fan. But a conservative Iranian website said it was a grenade, and at least one person was arrested.
Ahmadinejad appeared unfazed and went on to deliver one of his usual rants against the U.S. and its allies, vowing to forge ahead with Iran's nuclear programs. (ANI)
