US military documents leak, an 'orchestrated campaign against Pak': Envoy to UN

New York , Tue, 03 Aug 2010 ANI

New York, Aug 3(ANI): Pakistan's Ambassador the United Nations (UN), Abdullah Hussain Haroon, has denounced the leak of classified US military documents, saying that their authors were mostly fed wrong information by Afghan agents who were hostile to Pakistan.

In an interview with CBS News, Haroon said that those reports were not verifiable, and even flawed, as has been pointed out by top US officials, experts and some leading newspapers.

"The release of the secret documents appeared to be part of an orchestrated campaign against Pakistan, taking into account the spate of statements coming out in Kabul and Delhi," The News quoted Haroon, as saying.

WikiLeaks, the whistle-blower organization has posted over 90000 classified documents about the Afghan war on its website, which suggests that between 2004 and 2009, elements of the Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency had armed, trained and financed the Taliban.

The documents allege that former ISI chief Lieutenant General Hamid Gul (ret.), who ran the organization in the late 1980s, frequented Pakistani madrassas where suicide bombers are trained for Afghanistan, and attended planning meetings involving the Afghan Taliban seeking to attack both Afghan officials and foreign troops inside the country.
