Amorous Brit politicians meet 'bed warmers' in 'pick-up joint Parliament, says MP

London , Tue, 27 Jul 2010 ANI

London, July 27 (ANI): A veteran member of the British Parliament has claimed that amorous politicians seek "bed warmers" for the night from the venue.

Seventy-five-year-old Paul Flynn has claimed that one member lost his seat at a general election because he spent too much time in the Central Lobby "pursuing his passions" with strangers.

He also claims a friend had been propositioned by a woman who was waiting to meet her Tory MP at the crossroads between the Houses of Commons and Lords.

Flynn, who has represented Newport West for Labour since 1987, is the author of a backbenchers' guide called Commons Knowledge, which has become so popular among the dozens of newcomers to Westminster that it has sold out on Amazon.

According to The Telegraph, he now plans to write a new edition of the book that would reveal a hidden side to the Central Lobby, that of a picking-up joint for lonely MPs.

"In my sheltered life, I have always seen the Central Lobby as a beautiful mock Gothic cathedral-style forum at the heart of the Palace. It's an inspiring place in which to meet constituents and now do television interviews in the dry. I must reveal its alternative sleazy role when I re-write my book," Flynn said.

Recalling how his MP friend chatted up a woman in the lobby who was waiting to meet her Conservative MP, he said: "The following week he had a letter from her saying that she would like to see him again. She said she hoped he did 'not have a girl friend'. Gosh!"

He said that another unnamed "MP for a northern town" had "explained the role of the Central Lobby" to a cabinet member he met.

"Twenty-five years ago he had advised the cabinet member that if he was ever 'short' of a bed warmer for the night, the best way to solve the problem was to linger around the Central Lobby and engage a stranger in conversation. The lecherous MP spent so much time pursuing his passions in the Central Lobby, he lost his seat in 1983," Flynn said. (ANI)
