Washington, July 23 (ANI): Only 11 percent of Americans has confidence in the United States Congress, making it the lowest ranked institution in a new Gallup poll.
Among the 1,020 adults surveyed, Congress rates lower than banks, labor, big business and Health Maintenance Organizations, Politico reports.
According to the poll, the United States military is the top-ranked institution with 76 percent expressing confidence.
Small business and the police are the only two other major institutions with the confidence of more than half of the American people at 66 percent and 59 percent respectively.
Churches and the medical system are the fourth and fifth most trusted institutions, with 48 percent expressing confidence in organized religion and 40 percent saying the same of the medical system.
The two other major branches of government, the presidency and the Supreme Court both have the confidence of 36 percent of Americans.
Respondents also expressed very little confidence in the media, as only 25 percent have confidence in newspapers.
Twenty-three percent have confidence in banks, 20 percent in labor, 19 percent in Big Business and 19 percent in HMOs.
The survey was conducted July 8-11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points. (ANI)
