Facebook firm on not commenting on automated removal of Palin Post

New York, Fri, 23 Jul 2010 ANI

New York, July 23 (ANI): Social network site Facebook continues to refuse to comment on why its automated systems deleted a controversial July 20 post sent by former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

According to CBS, Palin's post expressed her opposition to plans to build a mosque near the World Trade Center site. The post is said to have reappeared Thursday, but it's still not clear what - or who - was responsible for the initial deletion.

Facebook indicated that the culprit was an automated system, but declined to get more specific than that. Citing security issues, Facebook would not go into details about how its systems work.

An official note issued by Facebook said that Palin's post did not violate the services content standards "but was removed by an automated system We're always working to improve our processes and we apologize for any inconvenience this caused."

Since bowing out of political office, Palin has regularly used social media like Facebook and Twitter - to comment on issues du jour without needing to go through the filter of the press - which she routinely dismisses as "the lame stream media."

As such, she's managed to draw a significant amount of attention for herself with controversial posts like the one in question. (ANI)
