Hindu statesman Zed urges religious entities to adopt social media

Nevada (US), July 22 (ANI): Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has urged religious entities worldwide to adopt social media to reach young adults, youth, and teenagers.

Social media like Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, hi5, PerfSpot, Netlog, Twitter, etc., were highly accessible and inexpensive; offered excellent visibility and powerful medium to strengthen communities; and provided global platforms. Technology could prove a wonderful connection among diverse religious groups spread worldwide, Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stated in Nevada (USA) today.

Rajan Zed, however, suggested using this form of digital communication "responsibly". Do not use it as a substitute to face-to-face dialogue but as a tool to provide ways and means to engage in dialogue and to build communities. Always define communication boundaries and set-up codes of conduct.

Conventional style of dealing with spirituality and religion did not appear to be effectively working, especially with today's youth. Shape it into something more exciting and challenging, livelier and not stagnant, Zed argued.

Rajan Zed further says: Make religion more vibrant, attractive and engaging if you want to keep your people in God's fold. If religious leaders and organizations do not attend to this challenge more effectively in this consumerist society, we can lose our youth to other marketplace players, which are more powerful, attractive and vocal than religion and spirituality. Many youth appear to be bored from religion. Serving God does not have to be dull. (ANI)
