Cameron urges to end fixation over 'special relationship' with US

London, Tue, 20 Jul 2010 ANI

London, July 20(ANI): British Prime Minister David Cameron has said that the "special relationship" between Britain and the United States is coming to an end.

In an article in the Wall Street Journal, Cameron urges everyone to stop taking the relationship's pulse every second, and recognize that Britain and the US will search the globe for a variety of alliances.

The Prime Minister said that he has "never understood the British anxiety about whether the special relationship will survive. The US-UK relationship is strong, because it delivers for both of us."

"The alliance is not sustained by historical ties or blind loyalty. This is a partnership of choice that serves our national interests today," The Guardian quoted Cameron's article, as saying.

The term "special relationship" was first used by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1945 after the two nations were bonded by the Second World War. (ANI)
