Washington, July 16 (ANI): Pakistan may have denied any role of state controlled institutions in the Mumbai attacks that left over 166 people dead, but the United States has held the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which has been fathered by the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), responsible for the carnage.
Addressing the Senate Foreign Relations Committee here, America's Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke identified the LeT as the group which planned and executed the 26/11 attacks.
Holbrooke explained that Pakistan was facing five major insurgencies -the Afghan Taliban, the Pakistani Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Haqqani network and Al Qaeda.
He described the Haqqani network as an "odious" group, "in North Waziristan who've been attacking the American troops", The Dawn reports.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, on Thursday, had said that Islamabad has taken note of the additional information provided by alleged LeT operative David Coleman Headly in his confessions to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Headley had revealed during interrogation that Jamaat-ud-Daawa, the front face of the LeT, chief, Hafeez Saeed, was the mastermind behind the 26/11 attacks in which the ISI played an active and key role, and confessed to his role in the terror attacks in which 10 Pakistani terrorists killed over 166 people and injured over 200 others.
