Melbourne, Jul 11 (ANI): Australia's main opposition party wants a crackdown on the "massive explosion" of overseas students seeking residency in the country.
The opposition wants to scale back skilled migration numbers as part of its strategy to contain population growth, The Courier Mail reports.
Immigration spokesman Scott Morrison did not nominate the skills that would be targeted, but said there is a "massive explosion" in overseas student numbers.
"The area where it (population) has blown out largely has been in the student program ... (with) all sorts of rorts and abuses," he told Network Ten.
"The government hasn't actually said ... what is going to be done with this massive pipeline of students who are now in the system," Morrison said.
The Productivity Commission, under the opposition's population strategy, would look at the issue, he added. (ANI)
