Pak Govt. slept over prior intelligence input over Lahore attack

Lahore, Fri, 02 Jul 2010 ANI

Lahore, July 2 (ANI): Pakistan interior ministry had informed the Punjab Government regarding the impending terror threat on Lahore a couple of days ago.

However, authorities did not pay heed to the information leading to Thursday's triple suicide attacks at Hazrat Data Gunj Bukhsh shrine in Lahore, killing as many as 42 devotees and injuring another 175.

According to reports, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also called a high level meeting to review the security arrangements in the province, and especially in Lahore, following the interior ministry's warning.

Intelligence agencies had also warned concerned authorities that they have credible input regarding militants planning to carry out attacks across the province, and target Lahore in particular, The Daily Times reports.

Meanwhile, a red-alert has been sounded by the security agencies across the province following the terror attacks.

Officials have been asked to keep a tight vigil on all vehicles passing through all the entry and exit points of Lahore.

Heavy deployment of troops have been made adopted at all big and small shrines throughout Punjab and Lahore, and Darbar Bibi Pakdaman, a compound within the limits of Data Darbar, has also been closed down for devotees.

Security has also been beefed up all across the country including Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar. (ANI)
