Kuala Lumpur , Fri, 18 Jun 2010 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, June 18 (ANI): Security of the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Devasthanam at Malaysia's famous Batu Caves and at several temples in Penang will be beefed up following threats to blow up certain places of worship.

The Chairman of Sri Subramaniar Swamy Devasthanam Temple, R. Nadarajah, said the 24-member temple committee would meet to discuss how additional security could be provided for the temples.

"I was shocked after reading about the threat. I knew it was Batu Caves after reading it. I would lodge a report at the Gombak police station requesting more police presence near the temple grounds," The Star quoted Nadarajah, as saying.

Nadarajah further said the screening of people might be done to avoid any untoward incident.

Meanwhile in George Town, the institution looking after the Kek Lok Si Temple has urged the police to set up a beat base at the temple.

The Managing Trustee of Nattukotai Chettiar Temple Trustees, N. Ramanathan, said the security of four temples, including the Kovil Veedu in Penang Street and the Nattukotai Chettiar Temple in Waterfall Road would be tightened. (ANI)
