Washington, Apr 9(ANI): United States President Barack Obama has hit back at Sarah Palin's criticism of his new nuclear strategy, saying the former Alaska Governor is not a nuclear expert.
Obama's remarks came after Palin compared the president's plan to a kid asking to be punched in the face on the playground and vowing not to hit back.
"Last I checked, Palin's not an expert on nukes. If the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are comfortable, I'll take my advice from them and not Sarah Palin," Fox News quoted Obama, as saying.
Obama is set to announce a new defence strategy, known as the Nuclear Posture Review, which aims to revamp American nuclear strategy to substantially narrow the conditions under which the country would use its nuclear weapons.
The President had described the policy as part of a broader effort to edge the world toward making nuclear weapons obsolete, and to create incentives for countries to give up any nuclear ambitions.
"I'm going to preserve all the tools that are necessary in order to make sure that the American people are safe and secure," Obama said.
"We are going to want to make sure that we can continue to move towards less emphasis on nuclear weapons to make sure that our conventional weapons capability is an effective deterrent in all, but the most extreme circumstances," he added.
According to reports, it would include the option of reconsidering use of nuclear retaliation against a biological attack.
Reacting to the announcement of the strategy, Palin had said: It's unbelievable. Unbelievable. No administration in America's history would, I think, ever have considered such a step that we just found out that President Obama is supporting today."
"You know that's kind of like getting out there on the playground a bunch of kids ready to fight and one of the kids saying go ahead, punch me in the face and I'm not going to retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me. No, it is unacceptable," she added. (ANI)
