Garhi Khuda Bukhsh (Pakistan), Apr 5(ANI): Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and its leaders will continue to serve the country and its people, even if it means laying down their lives for the purpose.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a transplant centre at Gumbut Medical Institute here, President Zardari said: "We will continue to serve Pakistan and its people even at the cost of our lives."
"We will continue to fight for our rights and those of the masses, without any fear of sacrifice," The Daily Times quoted Zardari, as saying.
Zardari further said the PPP would continue to pursue the policies laid by former Prime Ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto for the development of the country and uplift of the citizens.
He emphasised that it was Bhutto's philosophy that has continued to garner the overwhelming support of the masses.
The President said the 18th amendment will strengthen democracy in the country and would ensure that no dictator trampled on the constitution ever again.
He said some people might have wished that the government should have adopted constitutional amendments much earlier, "but there is a time for everything and it is being done now as the necessary consensus is there". (ANI)
