E China city refutes 'world malware capital' label

Beijing, Sat, 03 Apr 2010 ANI

Beijing, Apr.3 (ANI): East China's Zhejiang province has rejected the tag of being the "world's malware capital."

"It is technically impossible for hackers to launch large scale attacks from servers in Shaoxing city," Xinhua quoted municipal police and a team of experts in a statement, as saying.

When an IP address sends a certain amount of spam, it will be automatically disconnected, said the statement.

Anti-virus software company Symantec recently said that 21.3 percent of malicious attacks in the world came from Shaoxing.

Shaoxing, which is famous for its labor-intensive textile industry, had no significant IT business nor famous university nor any other conditions to make it the "world's malware capital," Meng Xiangqing, a professor with the National Defense University, was quoted as saying by Global Times this week.

Shaoxing is a key textile industry base and has the largest textile market in Asia. (ANI)
