Melbourne, Mar 9(ANI): Three-year-old Indian toddler Gurshan Singh's mother has spoken for the first time since the shocking incident, and described him as "beautiful boy" who still appears to her.

Gurshan's body was found near Melbourne Airport on Thursday night, about 30 kilometers from where the toddler disappeared from a house in Lalor six hours earlier.

"Our son was a beautiful boy and he was very loved and he is still in the front of our eyes," The Herald Sun quoted Harpreet, as saying in a letter to the newspaper.

"Up to this point our grief has been so bad, so deep, so beyond explanation. We want to thank the Australian people for their support and the Victoria Police for making an arrest so fast," she added.

Meanwhile, Gurshan's uncle, Raman Deep Singh, said the family was shocked to hear that someone they knew had been charged.

"That is our friend. Not a close friend, but we knew the person. t's a shock," Singh said.

Darebin councillor Tim Singh Laurence, speaking on behalf of Gurshan's parents said they were grateful for the efforts of the Victorian community and the police in "progressing the case very quickly".

Victoria Police homicide detectives have told the parents that he may have been hurt by accident before being allegedly put by Gursewak Dhillon, who shared a house in Lalor with the victim and his family, in a car boot and dumped near Melbourne Airport.

They also believe that Gurshan was unconscious, but alive when put in the boot.

The nature of the charge -manslaughter by criminal negligence- indicates investigators believe Gurshan may have lived if medical help had been summoned. (ANI)
