Saeed Anwar says no to PCB's chief selector post

Lahore, Fri, 26 Feb 2010 ANI

Lahore, Feb.26 (ANI): Former Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar has rejected the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) offer to become the chief selector, and instead expressed his desire to don the cap of the batting consultant of the national team.

Anwar said he has turned down the PCB's offer as he believes that he would not be able to do justice to the post.

"I was offered the post of chief selector but I told the PCB chairman that I could not take up the job as I don't think I would be able to do justice to the position. But I have told him that I do want to help the Pakistan team and I can do this as a batting consultant," The Daily Times quoted Anwar, as saying.

PCB chief selector's position has been lying vacant after Iqbal Qasim's resignation following Pakistan's terrible tour of Australia, where they were whitewashed in both the Test and ODI series.

Anwar, who spends most of his time in religious preaching after hanging his boots in 2003, also backed the PCB's idea of appointing former pacer Waqar Younis as the new team coach.

"I think it would be a great move because he is well respected and has impressive cricketing background and knowledge of modern day requirements," he said. (ANI)
