Luhrmann describes his recent India trip as "Indo-Australian peace initiative"

Melbourne, Sun, 14 Feb 2010 ANI

Melbourne, Feb 14(ANI): Oscar nominated Australian film director-actor-producer-writer Baz Luhrmann has reportedly described his recent trip to India as an "Indo-Australian peace initiative".

Luhrmann and Archibald Prize winner Melbourne-based portrait painter Vincent Fantauzzo, during their 10-day trip, took a motorcycle journey through Rajasthan, painted art pieces with local children, created portraits of musician-actor Elvis Presley and dancer-actor Gene Kelly in a mural in Mumbai, besides meeting Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

It was said to be Luhrmann's "personal peace mission to India" after a spate of attacks on Indian students in Australia.

Welcoming Luhrmann's peace initiative, acclaimed Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) said that it was moral responsibility of Australia's majority to take care of its minorities.

Zed, who is also the chairperson of Indo-American Leadership Confederation, added that more Australian artists should support this peace initiative. (ANI)
