Valentine's Day weddings could scale new heights Down Under

Sydney, Sun, 14 Feb 2010 ANI

Sydney, February 14 (ANI): The number of people tying the knot on Valentine's Day in the Australian state of New South Wales is predicted to reach new heights.

Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages were apparently forced to open a second marriage room near its city office to keep up with the demand.

"There was a total 726 weddings on Valentine's Day last year. I would estimate that number could be as high as 1000 this year," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted spokeswoman Alana Sheil as saying.

"Fridays and Sundays are becoming more popular due to there being less availability for receptions on Saturdays," she added.

Business analysis group IBISWorld also noticed the hike when it came to splurging for love.

IBISWorld senior industry analyst Ian MacGowan said: "We have also seen an increasing move towards 'experience' gifts. This trend has promoted strong growth in the sales of package olidays, including flights, accommodation, dinner, theatre tickets. There has been a strong demand for day spas and couples' retreats, too." (ANI)
