Sex industry booming amid recession

London, Feb 5 (ANI): With the recession going on in full swing and most business going bust, one trade is still booming - the sex industry.

A survey showed that last year men managed to spend a whopping 4.2 billion pounds on sex, which is an eight per cent increase on what they previously spent on lapdances, illicit trysts with escorts and saucy pictures in 2008.

And as 202,000 people battle it out for the few jobs being advertised in Scotland, more and more women are ditching their inhibitions to pay the bills.

It has been dubbed the Sexcession and an escort, and a lapdancer revealed how they are making the recession work for them.

Kylie turned to escort work in America and Scotland when the recession began, and the 20-year-old, from Aberdeen, thinks nothing of donning sexy basques, stockings and heels to pay her bills.

"It seemed kind of glamorous, I thought why not try it?" the Sun quoted Kylie as saying.

"With some of the guys it can be a real struggle but some of them can be good-looking too.

"All in all it's just like a normal job but you take your clothes off," she said.

Claire Drummond turned her back on working as a dental nurse to fund her future career through lapdancing.

The 21-year-old, from Glasgow, was determined to make enough cash to eventually open her own dental clinic - but couldn't do it on a nurse's wage.

Knowing she wouldn't be able to get a loan from a bank, she packed her bags and moved to Aberdeen to work in the city's exclusive Private Eyes lapdancing bar.

Drummond, who is known as Kandi to punters, now makes 1,500-pounds-a-week - six times her 250-pounds-a-week nurse's pay.

"I became a pole dancer because of the recession and a lot of people have turned to it because of the recession, too," Drummond said.

"If you are going for an interview, there are more people going for less jobs - and there is less chance of getting work," she said.

Although it might not be her first career choice, Drummond has found more positives than negatives.

"It's really good because I don't need to work in the daytime and do things I want to do before I go to work at night," she said.

"It's a nice club, the staff are really friendly and we are well taken care of. I have met loads of friends through it," she added. (ANI)
