We welcome India's proposal of resuming bilateral talks: Qureshi

Islamabad, Wed, 03 Feb 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Feb.3 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has welcomed External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna's remarks regarding the resumption of stalled bilateral talks between both countries.

On Tuesday, Krishna had said that doors for a dialogue with Pakistan had never been shut, however, talks on terror will remain the focal point of any future dialogue.

Terming the latest development as a positive step, Qureshi said Islamabad has always been keen to restart the peace talks, so that all outstanding issues between both countries are resolved amicably.

"There are many outstanding issues between the two countries, and we have decided to resolve them through peaceful negotiations. A new thinking is developing there (India) and if they have expressed a desire to resume dialogue, we welcome it," The Daily Times quoted Qureshi, as saying.

Earlier, Home Minister P. Chidambaram had also indicated about the possibility of holding dialogue with the Pakistani leadership during the three-day South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) interior ministers' conference beginning February 20. (ANI)
