Islamabad, Jan.30 (ANI): Criticising the United States for the continuous drone attacks in tribal regions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that the missile strikes are actually benefiting the extremists.
Talking to a delegation of the American Congress here, Khan said the focus should be on initiating talks with the extremists, but it is only possible when the 'war on terror' is stopped.
"Drone attacks should be immediately stopped. The war against terrorism will destroy the economies of both Pakistan and the United States. Following the way of negotiations is good but it can only be successful if the war is stopped," The Dawn quoted Khan, as saying.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief said extremism and terrorism were on the rise in the country because of drone attacks in tribal areas.
Khan said the drone strikes and the military operation in Malakand division and tribal regions will trap the country in a never ending war.
"Drone attacks are affecting our economy, peace and harmony. If the drone attacks don't stop, we will be stuck in this war for many years," he added. (ANI)
