Qureshi slams India, denies inaction against 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused

London, Fri, 29 Jan 2010 ANI

London, Jan 29 (ANI): Regardless of several evidences mounting against all the accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi continues to snub the Indian view of Islamabad not doing enough to prosecute those involved in the incident.

He, however, has accused India of being a divided house when it comes to dealing with Islamabad.

Qureshi described Pakistan's cooperation on 26/11 investigations has been extraordinary.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Afghanistan conference, Qureshi said, "I had a meeting with Mr. Krishna in New York on the sidelines of UNGA. I gave him a very crisp proposal, a road map for future. He said he will get back to me, but he hasn't."

"It means he has nothing to offer. It seems that the Indian polity is divided, India is confused, India does not know whether they should engage with Pakistan or they should shy away," he added.

Qureshi even attempted to deflect Pakistan's responsibility on dismantling the terror network by saying that India's foreign office is divided on engagement with Islamabad.

"Unfortunately there is a dichotomy here. What's going on right now is, the public stance of the Indian foreign office is different. On another hand, the private stance is different. The private stance is that Pakistan's cooperation has been unprecedented," he said.

"They acknowledge the exchange of dossiers, the exchange of information that we have had. There is a lack of political agreement in India on foreign policy (towards Pakistan)," he added.

Krishna, however, bluntly rejected Qureshi's charges saying he was yet to hear from his Pakistani counterpart on the action India has been seeking since the Mumbai attacks.

Krishna said, "We met in New York, and then we had hoped that the investigations in Pakistan about the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks would continue based on the dossiers that we have provided to Pakistan."

"Well there is no dichotomy in Indian polity. We have not heard about the outcome of those investigations if they have taken place, if they have been conducted," he added.

It seems that the London Conference on Afghanistan has taken the cold war between the two nations a step ahead. (ANI)
