HINDRAF leader urges Kedah Govt. to appoint two Malaysian-Indians in Exco

Kuala Lumpur, Tue, 26 Jan 2010 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Jan. 26 (ANI): HINDRAF leader K. Vasantha Kumar has urged the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) Government in Keddah to appoint at least two Indian representatives in the state executive council.

The Star Online quoted Kumar as saying that the need for the two to handle problems faced by the Indian community had been highlighted to the Menteri Besar.

After attending Keadilan's Thai-pusam organising committee meeting in Taman Impian in Sungei Petani on Monday, Vasantha told reporters that the PAS-led state government had failed to fully address the issues faced by the Indian community.

Kumar added that the state would set up a service centre in Sungai Petani during Thaipusam to help those facing problems in their application for birth certificates, identity cards, voter registration and registration for social welfare benefits.

He also said that the centre would also organise a campaign to gather about 35,000 signatures urging the state government to grant a holiday for Thaipusam. (ANI)
