Islamabad, Jan.20 (ANI): The ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is the poorest among all the 'poor' political parties of Pakistan. Unbelievable, well that's the case if the latest declaration made by these parties to the Election Commission is to be believed.
According to a statement of account filed by all registered political parties of Pakistan, the PPP has only 435,745 rupees with it.
The most interesting part of the PPP's declaration is that it claims to have spent only 660 rupees during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.
In 2008, the party paid 58,400 rupees under the head of staff salaries. While the money the party had in the bank in 2008 was the same as in 2009, it had 56,976 rupees cash in hand, The Daily Times reported.
The main opposition party and the ruling party in Punjab - the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has declared an accumulated net worth of 3.19 million rupees.
The accumulated figures of party funds show that the PML-N raised 5.80 million rupees through membership fees and donations, while expenses during 2008-09 stood at 4.1 million rupees.
Interestingly, both the PML-N and the PML-Q have shown Muslim League House buildings in Lahore and Islamabad as their property and listed expenses incurred on the buildings in their declarations.
Amongst other parties, the Awami National Party (ANP) showed fixed and non-fixed assets of about 27 million rupees while the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), which appeared to be the wealthiest of all political parties, has 44.23 million rupees in its account. The Jamaat-e-Islami has a total worth of 1,507,416 rupees. (ANI)
