Kuala Lumpur, Jan 19 (ANI): A factory technician, who tried to evade his marriage due to insufficient funds and cooked up a story that he was robbed, has landed in trouble after cops arrested him for lodging a false report.
Taman Senai Utama had told police that two knife-wielding men looted RM6,000 from him near an ATM machine in Kulaijaya on Sunday.
However, his story did not appeal to the police.
When the 27-year-old was questioned thoroughly by the cops he accepted to having fabricated the story to postpone his marriage.
"We knew he was lying when some of his facts did not tally," the Star Online quoted Kulaijaya OCPD Supt Zulkefly Yahya, as saying.
Yahya said: "He thought that by making a report he would be able to justify postponing his marriage. We discovered that he did not have enough money to proceed with the wedding."
The police also revealed that Utama had hidden the RM6,000 in his house all along.
It has come to light that his marriage, which was to take place in July, was pushed to February by his future father-in-law.
Utama has now been arrested under Section 177 of the Penal Code for making a false report. If the charge is proved, he may be imprisoned for six months or asked to pay a fine of RM2,000 or both.
Yahya said: "We advise the people not to resort to making false report. It is a serious offence and anyone who commits it will be punished severely." (ANI)
