Islamabad, Jan.16 (ANI): Pakistan has asked India for guidance on the procedures related to voting conducted through electronic voting machines.
Pakistan's Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retired) Hamid Ali Mirza is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on January 25 to participate in the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Election Commissions of India, The Daily Times reports.
Mirza has asked for guidance on the working of electronic voting machines (EVM), which are being used in India for elections since 2002, replacing the old ballot and stamps system.
Chief Election Commissioner, Naveen Chawla has arranged for a demonstration of the EVMs at his office for the Pakistani delegation, which will meet the Indian commission on January 28.
The electronic voting system in India is a standalone machine without being part of any network and with no provision for any input. The software chip is one-time programmable and is burnt into the chip at the time of its manufacturing. (ANI)
