London, January 12 (ANI): Miep Gies, who hid Anne Frank, one of the most renowned and most discussed victims of the Holocaust, and her family from the Nazis during World War II, has died aged 100.

The Dutch office secretary, who concealed the family in an apartment for two years, died after suffering a brief illness in the Netherlands.

"This is very unfair. So many others have done the same or even far more dangerous work," Sky News quoted Gies as saying n the days before her 100th birthday last February.

Anne, who died of typhus aged 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, gained international fame posthumously following the publication of her diary which documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands.

The diary was rescued by Gies, who later handed it to Anne's father Otto, the only survivor of the family.

Otto published it in 1947 and "The Diary of Anne Frank" went on to become one of the world's most widely read books that was translated into nearly 65 languages. (ANI)
