Rawalpindi, Thu, 07 Jan 2010 ANI

Rawalpindi, Jan 7(ANI): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi, Pakistan has rejected petitions seeking acquittal of six out of seven accused allegedly involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, which killed over 160 people.

The ATC judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan rejected the petitions filed by Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, Ammad Amin Sadiq, Mazhar Iqbal, Abdul Majid, Jamil Ahmed, Shahid Jameel Riaz and Mohammad Yunus Anjum, The Nation reports.

Earlier, the same court had held its decision after lawyers from both sides concluded their arguments on three different petitions.

The court has charged the suspects with planning and helping execute the Mumbai attacks, and has also declared 16 people, including the lone surviving terrorist of the attacks, Ajmal Amir Kasab, as "proclaimed offenders".

The six accused had challenged the charges claiming that they were being tried for the charges leveled against them by FIA based on the confessional statement of Kasab.

The court adjourned the hearing till January 16. (ANI)
