Islamabad's foreign policy not pro or anti US, it's pro-Pakistan: Qureshi

Karachi, Wed, 06 Jan 2010 ANI

Karachi, Jan. 6 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has clarified that Islamabad's policy is "neither pro-American nor anti-American," it simply is a pro-Pakistan foreign policy.

"Our policy is neither pro-American nor anti-American. Every country has its own interests to safeguard and we are doing the same," the Daily Times quoted Qureshi, as saying.

He added that the US Congress, which in the past used to point fingers at Pakistan, is now passing unanimous resolutions in favour of Islamabad.

Referring to General McChrystal's statement "We are interested in a partnership," Qureshi said that Pakistan wants good relations with the US, which values Pakistan's partnership.

He said the democratically elected government had been able to project Pakistan's point of view in a more convincing manner.

"The present government with the help of the people and the armed forces has not only changed the public opinion in Pakistan but the terrorists are also on the run," Qureshi said.

Commenting on the recent remarks of the Indian Army Chief General Kapoor, Qureshi said his statement did not reflect the thinking of the Indian government.

Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, in fact, had said that dialogue was the only way forward, Qureshi said. (ANI)
