England has greater firepower now than in 2005: Harmison

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

London, Aug.29 (ANI): England fast bowler Stephen Harmison believes the current England attack possesses greater firepower than the one that regained the Ashes in 2005.

"This attack feels a bit different to the 2005 one, but I think it has a bit more pace to it. Ninety miles an hour is difficult to face. I have been asked whether I was surprised at the way South Africa capitulated but I wasn't really, not when Broady got the first four or five out. With the firepower we had after that I would have backed us to bowl anybody out for 80," The Independent quoted Harmison, as saying.

"The core of fast bowlers available now is exciting - if we can keep the four that bowled this week fit and add Ryan [Sidebottom] to that. He has been England's best bowler in the past 14 months and he has got to come back somewhere. Hopefully, we can get a group of batters too, a steady couple of wicket-keepers and then we will have a strong squad going to India and the West Indies this winter, and we can come back with some confidence for next summer's Ashes," Harmison added.

Harmison was speaking ahead of England's final one-dayer against South Africa to be played at The Oval today. (ANI)
