London, Dec 24 (ANI): Doctors have successfully removed 14 sewing needles stuck inside the body of a two-year-old Brazilian boy.
The latest surgery at the Ana Nery Hospital saw needles removed from his intestines, liver and bladder, reports the Daily Express.
The baby had also been operated upon last week to remove four rusty needles wedged near his heart and in his lungs.
According to the hospital's spokeswoman, Susy Moreno, the boy condition was improving and he would be cared for in an intensive care unit.
Doctors say another surgery would be performed next week to remove the needles lodged near the baby's spine.
Meanwhile, the boy's stepfather, Roberto Carlos Magalhaes, told Globo TV that he intended to teach his wife a lesson by killing the child.
Police have charged him of attempted murder.
His girlfriend, Angelina Ribeiro dos Santos, 47, has also been charged.
Magalhaes revealed he gave the boy wine and inserted needles into his body while he was under the influence of alcohol. Although, the baby did not cry at the time, he felt the pain after the effect of alcohol wore off, Magalhaes said.
He added that he thought the boy would die before anyone discovered the needles. (ANI)
