Lahore, Dec. 7 (ANI): Despite Islamabad's superficial hue and cry against the US predator strikes in tribal areas, drone attacks have proved beneficial for Pakistan's sovereignty as well as the economy, a Pakistani newspaper has opined.
"If truth be told, these drone attacks are beneficial for Pakistan's sovereignty as they are successful in knocking out militants who pose a danger to Pakistan's security...Our economic as well as military funding is dependent on the goodwill of the sole superpower," a Daily Times editorial said.
Recently, Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi accepted that Pakistan cannot oppose drone attacks in Balochistan because "Americans are funding us." He added that Washington could do whatever it wanted, as Pakistan is a beneficiary of the American aid.
In the open, Pakistan has opposed US drone attacks against the militants in the tribal areas as well as in Balochistan.
But the editorial points out that Americans could not have built a drone base on Pakistani soil without the knowledge of the government.
Magsi has let the cat out of the bag, and it is high time that the government also comes clean, the editorial concludes. (ANI)
