Peshawar, Sat, 05 Dec 2009 ANI

Peshawar, Dec.5 (ANI): At least two people were reportedly killed and seven wounded in a powerful bomb blast near a restaurant on University Road in Peshawar on Saturday.

All injured have been admitted to the to Lady Reading Hospital, where a state of emergency has been declared. There were also reports of some people being stuck in the rubble.

The nature of the blast, which occurred outside a restaurant, is yet to be ascertained.

Television footage showed smoke billowing out of the restaurant building. Several fire-fighting teams were pressed into service immediately after the blast, which also destroyed about 20 other shops located near by.

The blast came less than 24-hours after a ghastly suicide attack on a mosque in Rawalpindi, in which 39 people were killed and 45 others injured.

According to media reports, two-star generals were among the people killed in the attack.

The Dawn reported that a colonel also died in the attack while several senior military officers, including a former vice army chief, retired general Mohammad Yousuf, were among the injured.

Earlier, the Tehreeke-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) took the responsibility for Friday's suicide attack on the Parade Lane mosque, saying the mosque was "demolished on the orders of Prophet Muhammad". (ANI)
