Beijing, Oct. 10 (ANI): The Chinese Foreign Ministry has asked American lawmakers to stop "interfering" in China's internal affairs, after the US Congress honoured the Dalai Lama with a human rights award.
"We urge some members of the U.S. Congress to respect the history and the facts, recognize the true face of Dalai Lama, stop using the Tibet issue to interfere in China's internal affairs," Xinhua quoted Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu, as saying.
"The Chinese people know well about Dalai, a primary chief of the feudal serfdom in old Tibet, who is still running programs to divide the homeland and sabotage social stability and unity among nations in Tibet," he added.
China says that a lot of developmental work has been done in Tibat, while Buddhists in the area blame Chinese rule and economic exploitation for eroding their traditional culture.
"Tremendous progress has taken place in Tibet's social and economic aspects since its democratic reform and the human rights situation there is the best in history," Ma said. (ANI)
