Chinese farmer gets divorce from 'non-existent' wife!

New Delhi, Thu, 27 Aug 2009 ANI

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): A Chinese farmer has finally gotten a divorce from his wife, who had used a fake ID card to get married to him in 2005, and who then disappeared after just five days of marriage.

Xiao Chen, 31, a resident of Lishui, Zhejiang province married Huang Hai, a woman from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, just two weeks after meeting her, reports the China Daily.

Xiao even paid 20,000 yuan to the person who introduced him to Huang as a token of thanks.

But after just five days of marriage, Huang disappeared, and when Xiao tried looking for her, he discovered that both the name and the address on her ID card were fake.

Since the woman did not exist according to government records, the marriage registration office in the city did not approve the divorce.

However, on August 24, 2009 a court ruled in favour of Xiao and granted him the divorce. (ANI)
