Passengers and engine driver injured as Siphung express derails in Assam

Kokrajhar, May 23 (ANI): The Guwahati Siphung express derailed between Salakati and Basugaon in Kokrajhar Distric of Assam on Saturday, injuring several passengers along with the engine driver. Footage from the incident shows at least two bogies hanging precariously from the bridge, and another two piled up against each other. PRO of the North East Frontier Railway, Jayanta Sarma reportedly stated that five passenger bogies have been derailed. The derailment occurred at 6 am due to a tree lying on the track near Champa Bridge. Police and railway officials have reached the spot. The train runs from Alipurduar in north Bengal to Guwahati in Assam, the main line that connects the two states. Authorities are working to restore rail traffic which has been hit because of the accident.
