P.J. Kurien elected as deputy chairman of RS

New Delhi, Aug 21(ANI): Congress Senior leader P.J. Kurien was today unanimously elected as the new Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh nominated Kuriens name for the post and leader of opposition Arun Jaitley seconded the motion. Chief of Bahujan Samaj Party Mayawati expressed hope that Kurien would provide an equal ground to all political parties in the proceedings of the house. Samajwadi Party leader Mohan Singh echoed similar sentiments. Kurien succeeds K Rahman Khan, whose term expired recently as the deputy chairman of the upper house.
