Sen has been wanting to make the film for over twenty years ever since she had read the Sirsendu Mukhopadhyay story (the writer was also present at the occasion).Mousumi Chatterjee and Konkana Sen Sharma play the role of Rashmoni and Somlata respectively and Srabonti plays the role of young Rashmoni and Chaitali. Saswata Chatterjee, Ranjeet Mullick, Manasi, Pijush, Gargi and Kaushik Roy will be among the cast and crew of the film. Debojyoti Mishra is the music director and Rabi Ranjan Moitra is the editor of the film. Dulal De is Sens assistant director.
