IITian, Magsaysay award winner and social activist Arvind Kejriwal has become a social icon for Indians due to his marathon efforts for implementing Right to Information Act and struggle for implementing strong Jan Lokpal Bill (Public Ombudsman bill) in India.

Arvind Kejriwal, a B.Tech Scholar from IIT, Kharagpur and former Income Tax Officer was later turned into social reformer, RTI activists and a key member of Anna Hazare's team who struggled for passing and implementing strong Jan Lokpal Bill in the centre and strong Lokayukta bill in the states.

Arvind Kejriwal was born on 16th June 1968 in a Marwari family in Hissar, Haryana, where he completed his schooling and graduated from IIT Kharagpur, West Bengal in 1989 in Mechanical Engineering. After completing his study, he joined Tata Steel in 1989 but quit it in 1992. In 1995, he joined Indian Revenue Services but quit this job from the post of Joint Commissioner in IT department in February 2006 for entering in the field of social reforming.

After voluntary resignation from job, he founded Parivartan, a Delhi based citizens' movement which works on ensuring a just, transparent and accountable governance. In December 2006, Kejriwal along with former journalist Manish Sisodia and Abhinandan Sekhri started Public Cause Research Foundation, which works for promoting better local self governance and RTI related campaigns.

Arvind Kejariwal along with social activists Aruna Roy and other began a nationwide campaign for implementing Right to Information into government organization and their fight became fruitful when RTI Act, 2005 had been implemented on 15th June 2005.

Using this act, Arvind exposed several corruption cases many government departments including the Income Tax department, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Public Distribution System (PDS), the Delhi Electricity Board etc..
