Vilasrao Dagadojirao Deshmukh popularly known as Vilasrao Deshmukh in an Indian politician who has served the state of Maharashtra as being Chief Minister and Centre by holding different portfolios. Vilasrao is a Congress member and currently holding two cabinet portfolios ? Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences.

Vilasrao was born at Babhalgaon, Distt. Latur, Maharashtra on 26th May 1945. He pursued his law degree from ILS Law College (Pune University) and actively participated in social reforming. He joined politics from the grass root level as being elected member of Panchayat of his village Babhalgaon and later Sarpanch (head of village) from 1974 to 1976. He entered in the state politics in 1980 when he was elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA). He was legislator of Maharashtra assemble from 1980 to 1995. During this period, he served in several ministry and became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 18 October 1999 to 5 December 2008 in a row by two times.

In central he held the portfolio of Rural Development Ministry, Panchayati Raj Ministry, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Ministry.

Vilasrao attracted several criticisms in his political carrier and his name also came in Adarsh Society Land Scam, Subhash Ghai land deal, and Manjara Trust.

He got married to Vaishali Deshmukh and the couple has three sons ? Amit, Ritesh and Dheeraj. Ritesh Deshmukh is a renowned Bollywood actor who was married to actress Genelia D'Souza.
