Nothing and nobody could prevent the Taliban suicide bombers from entering the Intercontinental Hotel, fully armed and shooting civilians with impunity while they played war songs from tape recorders. The attack was markedly different from previous clumsily orchestrated attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan, where suicide bombers detonated explosives strapped on them, in crowded market areas.
