Students Islamic Movement of India is a regularised organisation of the Muslim community in India that wants radical social change in Indian society thus to realise it into an Islam country banning and protesting all the modernised and fashionable influence of the western countries. Thus it sticks to fundamental concepts of Islam and tries to convert the country as scripted in Quoran. It also goes against the reformation of the society. SIMI was founded in 1977 in Aligarh in the state of Uttar Pradesh by Mohammad Ahmadullah Siddiqui, professor of Journalism and public relations at western Illinois University USA. The movement was also inspired by Islamic revolution in Iran and developed as a wing of the Jammat-e ?Hind. Owing to its aims and objectives the movement is suspected to be involved in terrorist attacks in various places of India the result of which it was banned in 2002. SIMI believes that secularism; nationalism and democracy that are catchwords to Indian constitution and unity are opposed and antithetical to Islam. Thus they aim to restore supremacy of Islam through Khilafat and want to convert India in to an Islamic state. SIMI has nearly 20000 supporting members through out India .It identifies Sangh parivar as the enemy of Islam and backs Osama Bin Laden as an outstanding leader of Islam and a true Mujahiddin. SIMI is suspected to have carried out the operations of the terrorists groups of Pakistan. So defence of India keeps a stringent eye on it.
