Everything you need to know about Jyoti Basu: news, reviews, in-depth analysis, opinion and more

If there could be any politician in India serving in politics for more than 45 years he is nobody but Jyoti Basu, the oldest veteran political leader in Indian politics with a longest historical record in politics. This mature leading personality has been contesting assembly polls in the Indian state of West Bengal from 1957 to 2008 and has been elected to the state assembly without having seen the face of defeat. Basu hails from a well to do middle class family born in 1914 in Calcutta in the undivided Bengal now West Bengal. Educated in Xavier?s College and Presidency College in Calcutta Mr. Basu is the most knowledgeable person in the party. While in study in London Basu was introduced to Marxism and its ideological perspectives thus was severely enchanted by this. After his return to India the veteran leader joined in Indian politics from the Communist party of India but when it got divided into parts Basu formed CPI (Marxist) with the aim to carry out the ideologies of Karl Marx. The historical record of being the longest serving chief minister in any state of India is still under the name of Jyoti Basu during the time of which the leader has brought many changes and transformations in the respective state for his will to bring a revolutionary change in Indian politics. From 1977 to 2000 Basu had been the chief minister of West Bengal stepped down owing to the health concerns. Basu has done many welfare projects for his state but unfortunately has been ill for old age. He is the most undisputed leader in CPI (M) in Indian politics preaching the ideologies of Marx.
