Food and Agricultural Organisation is an international organisation founded on 16th oct. 1945 headquartered in Rome, Italy. It is a specialized agency of United Nations. It is comprised of 192 members through out the world, which aims at defeating hunger, poverty and improving agriculture, forestry and fisheries. For the smooth ongoing of its welfare projects FAO has various regional, sub-regional and liaison offices in many parts of the world that will implement its projects there. FAO is regulated by the conference of its member nations which meets every two year to review the works undertaken by it and it forms a committee of 49 nations to act as interim governing body for the flexible administration of its projects. The monetary support that it needs to carry out works is financed by the member nations. FAOP has one director general who will be the supreme authority to supervise all its projects undertaken. The present director general is Jacques Diouf and is liable to be questioned by the conference. FAO has 8 departments like Administration and Finance, Agriculture, Economic and Social, Forestry, Fisheries, General affairs and information, Sustainable development and Technical cooperation. The organisation always stares at the growth of food and agriculture and works to streamline these projects.
