National, Fri, 15 May 2009 IANS

New Delhi, May 15 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday acquitted Lt Col (retd) S.J. Chaudhary, serving life imprisonment for murdering automobile dealer Krishan Sikand in the national capital in 1982.

A division bench comprising of Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Aruna Suresh accepted Chaudhary's appeal challenging his conviction by a lower court May last year.

Chaudhary was convicted for sending a parcel bomb that killed Sikand in the Sunder Nagar area of the national capital Oct 2, 1982.

According to the prosecution, Chaudhary killed Sikand because the victim was seeing the army officer's wife and planned to marry her.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also alleged that the bomb used in the murder was made in Pakistan and was seized by the Indian Army following its victory in the 1971 war.
