New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) One person was killed and 34 injured when a speeding container truck jumped the road divider and collided with a bus in south Delhi early Wednesday, police said.

A container truck bearing a Rajasthan registration number hit the Himachal Pradesh roadways bus ferrying 32 people, including the bus driver Joginder Singh and conductor, near the Lajpat Nagar flyover around 5.30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Police said the container truck was being driven by cleaner Karni Singh, 23, while the driver Buddhi Ram, 50, was seated behind him.

'Karni Singh lost control of the truck near the Lajpat Nagar flyover and the truck jumped the divider after breaking the railing and reached the other side of the road, where it hit the passenger bus,' said a police officer.

Rakesh Yadav, who was driving his car behind the bus, also sustained injuries when his vehicle rammed into the bus from behind, police said.

'Buddhi Ram died in the accident while Rakesh Yadav, Karni Singh and 32 bus passengers were injured in the mishap. We rushed them to the trauma centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where many were discharged after treatment,' said the police officer.

None of the injured were reported to be in serious condition.

Anil Rawat, 23, said he was seated behind the bus conductor when the accident took place.

'I was going to my office IBM Daksh in Gurgaon and was resting on the last seat. I only gained consciousness in the hospital,' said Rawat, who suffered head injuries.

Police said: 'We have Karni Singh with us and he will be arrested after he recovers from his injuries.'
