Lok Janshakti Party MP Surajbhan Singh, who is out on bail in a murder case, was interrogated Wednesday in his alleged involvement in another murder case of Madhuresh Kumar Singh in Bihar’s Nawada district.
Interrogation took place today, two days after Madhuresh Kumar Singh was murdered late on Monday night. An FIR was registered against Surajbhan Singh and two others in the Warasaliganj police station.
Singh was said to be killed for supporting Akhilesh Singh, who is contesting the Nawada seat as an Independent against the LJP candidate Veena Singh, wife of Surajbhan Singh.
ACP Nawada, Nishant Tiwari, said police were interrogating Singh for his alleged involvement in the murder, but he had not been taken into custody or arrested so far.
Surajbhan Singh, MP from Balia, was sentenced to life last year for the murder of a farmer Rami Singh in 1992. He is barred from contesting 2009 Lok Sabha election by a court. He is out on bail after appealing his conviction. The court had turned down his plea seeking suspension of his conviction in criminal case to fray in poll.
In a separate case, three criminal-turned-politicians namely, RJD MPs Pappu Yadav and Mohammad Shahabuddin, former JD (U) MP Anand Mohan facing wrath of the laws of the land have also been denied by a court from contesting poll.
Pappy Yadav, currently out on bail, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a lower court for lynching CPM legislator Ajit Sarkar in 1998. Shahabudddin, presently in jail, was convicted in seven criminal cases. Anand Mohan, in jail, was convicted last year and awarded the death penalty for provoking mob that killed Gopalganj district magistrate G Krishnaiyah in 1994.
